Arrive late in Nicuragua, cos we missed the flight. Having got up at the ungodly hour of 3.30 (I've only ever seen this time by staying up), we had a puncture on the way to Guatemala Airport! had to wait 8 hours on a formed hard plastic seat until the next flight. Had fantastic views of the 7 volcanoes which make up the Eatern side of Nicuragua, peering into the craters and wondering which would be the easiest to drag Emma up? Then had my hand squealed a little hard as we hit some bad turbulence. Of course i wasn't worried, i'm sure the aero engineers knew what they were doing!
Hired a car and headed north to the supposed beautiful colonial town of Leon. Turned out to be a bit of a slum with a couple of old churches. We found a seedy hotel, fine by me but Emma was a little disconcerted by the availability of the rooms by the hour, or part thereof! We left 12 hours later and headed further north to what our guidebook said was the most beautiful area of N. Would it be as accurate as it was for Leon?
