Woke up late after a very noisy night, the other hostel dwellers were up drinking and talking outside our room until 3am - it sounded like they were in our room!. Finally dragged ourselves out of bed at 11:00am. Took the METRO into town, and managed to go in the right direction straight off the bat! Our Spanish is improving slightly, although our confidence is still rather low! After purchasing our bus tickets to Mendoza, we strolled around a bustling part of Santiago, near the University of Chile. It was great to look in all the local shops, and bars. We found some interesting little restaurants, and quaint little cafes. We had decided that we would walk up the "hill" on which there is a statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city, as well as a cable car that takes you across the hill, with great views of the city. It was quite a slog up the hill, but well worth it once we made the top. Great views of Santiago and the mountains surrounding the city. The road at the bottom of the hill is lined with bars and restaurants, and we treated ourselves to a cold ESCUIDO, the local beer. It was less than 2 dollars for a litre! The sun only went down at 9:30, so it makes for a long evening. It was another great day among the short people of Chile.
