Hey everyone
Well me and Pete have successfully made it to Ulan Batar in Mongolia.
The train journey took what seems like forever (7 hours at the Russian border, 3 hours at the Mongolian one!) but we had a good time as we ran into Nick, Matt and Dan from the island. They were f\getting the same train and were even in the same wagon so good times were had by all!
After arriving in UB, we were escorted to our hostel which is pretty nice and started attempting to sort out some excursions. We were meant to be going on one 2day but so far nothing has been sorted, hopefully soon though!
Anyways, yesterday we wondered around UB. It is surprisingly a very nice city with some modern skyscrapers, hard to believe its Mongolian! We first went to a museum of Mongolian history which was pretty cool, some interesting stuff about Genghis Khan in there. We then wondered over to Sukhbatar square where the Parliament building was (similar to the Reichstag in Berlin i thought). After that, we went to the natural history museum, where they had some skeletons of Dinosaurs! Most impressive was a huge Tabarosaurous, very scary thing indeed! After that, we wondered abit to a temple museum dedicated to one of the lamas of Buddhism (i think it was anyways). It was pretty impressive, unfortunately this computer wont let me upload photos so I'll have to wait to Beijing. Anyways, we then wondered down to the market. It was complete chaos down there, i mean literally. I bought me some Mongolian riding boots, which were awsome, wight a tonne though. After we wondered to the winter palace, which was cool and then to another palace which looked similar.
That was about it for UB so now were attempting to sort out some trips.
Hopefully will be able to update this soon, if not see you all in Beijing on the 1st September!
Hope everyone is well
Mark and Peter
