I thoroughly enjoyed a sunny, 92 degree, windows rolled down, hair in a rat's nest, back roads drive from Belton to Fredericksburg today, with a stop for an amazing lunch at The Maxican (correct spelling) in Burnet (pronounced Burn-it). Their salsa is unusual, made from roasted veggies rather than fresh. Yummy, even though the chips were a bit stale. Next was a tiny cup of really delicious tortilla soup with a crispy tostada. Finally, I was blown away by Marsha's Special: shrimp stuffed with monterey jack and sliced jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, grilled and served on rice, along with a huge poblano pepper stuffed with chicken and cheese, covered with cilantro cream sauce, and a cup of tasty pinto beans. The only uncomfortable thing was that the chef's mom (grandmom?) likes to visit tables and rub customers on the back and shoulders. A lot. Even during your meal. And even though I like a good hug, it was just a bit too much. But she's a really sweet woman, so I gently fibbed that I was getting a cold and gave a good sniff. :-)  If I lived here, I'd have to eat here a lot, so we'd just have to have a little chat about all that rubbing.  Probably a good thing I'm passing through.  ha   www.themaxican.com

Be sure to look at the photos individually rather than in a slide show since many have descriptions.

Well, I've tried these boots on a few times, but couldn't find them in the right color in my size. I let it percolate for a couple of weeks and finally just ordered them online. They're just TOO FABULOUS - like a verdigris leopard. So even though I won't be able to pet them until I get home, it'll be like Christmas!  So be sure to take a gander at my third, and final, pair of  Hot New Boots. (Or at least the last pair on this trip.)
