I received a very nice email from Brad, the Director of Visitor Services at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. He obviously read my email and addressed each point which, in my experience, is pretty rare. His concern and apology sound sincere, and he offered to refund the $22 exhibit admission as well as the $10 parking fee. (Although a refund is very gracious, I really did just want to enjoy the exhibit!)

He also offered two passes to the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit, which I badly wanted to see, but I have no intention of hanging around or returning to Houston when it opens on May 22. Absolutely no way. Instead, I replied that I would love to have the hard back book for the Genghis Khan exhibit if they ever restock it (again, it's open for four more months!), or even the Terra Cotta Warrior book since I won't be able to attend. Regardless, I'm satisfied with the results.

I repeat:  if you don't call them on it, they'll think it's okay to continue acting the same way, and then you'll deserve what you get. Or, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Or, if you don't speak up, they won't even know something's wrong. As I used to tell my sewing machine customers, I might be good, but I don't have ESP: if you need help, you've gotta ask for it. Or, finally, if you give people a chance to do the right thing, they just might.
