My, my, the best breakfast of the trip! An omelet with sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and green pepper, super crispy hash browns, and fresh iced tea. And since I was eating at 10:30 and considered it brunch, I had dessert! They call it pecan cobbler, but it was actually deep-dish pecan pie, and it was fabulous. (I believe cobbler has to have dumplings rather than a crust.) Lunch and dinner looked like tasty, the pie list was a mile long, and they have live music (pickin' and grinnin') on Tuesdays. What a great joint!
Edom is so tiny that I left my truck where it was and just wandered from one spot to the next. Arbor Castle Birdhouses was absolutely magical! Joseph Hopps, the artist, was at a show, but his son Bobby took great care of me, explaining the materials, how the houses are suited to different birds, how to clean them, etc. I chose a beautiful medium-sized house to send to Mom, but will wait to post the photo after she's had a chance to get it in the mail. It's extremely durable, but it may be too pretty to leave outside!* www.arborcastlebirdhouses.com/
Although I didn't buy anything, I really enjoyed chatting with Beth at Potters Brown. Their work is wonderful but, as usual, I'm constrained by the "can I easily ship it home" rule. I did, however, make notes about a snazzy berry bowl and saucer so I can call to order it later. If you can't make it in person, their site lists shows they attend. Of course, then you won't get to see their shop kitty sleep in a huge batter bowl! (My camera was in the car, so you'll have to imagine it. :-) www.pottersbrown.com
I roamed through several more shops, but missed getting to see the jewelry at Zeke and Marty's since they were out of town at a show. Well, the cost of the birdhouse was just about like buying jewelry, so maybe it wasn't a bad thing... www.zekeandmarty.com/
* Mom received the birdhouse, so I've posted the photo. Isn't it amazing?!? It arrived the day after Mother's Day.
