Where I stayed

Okay, so months of research, reading and planning (plus an upper respiratory infection), and it's finally time to go! What started as "I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon" has grown into a 10-state tour. I mean, why drive all that way and not see everything else? There's a lot of country between Kentucky and Arizona, flat and mountainous, grass and desert, cities and wilderness, noise and quiet. I want to do it all!

In the early 80s I lived in Knoxville and hopped in the car at every opportunity, driving out for half a tank, then back. Somehow I just lost that urge. I don't know if it was the car accident that just made me jumpy, or I was just busy doing other things, but I'm absolutely sick and tired of being so tied to home.  I spent my teenage years wanting to escape our farm in middle Tennessee, just wanting to be free to go. To go anywhere but where I was. (Not surprising for a teenager.) So while I've lived in several states, I always seemed to just get stuck until I moved again. Heck, I've lived in Kentucky for almost ten years and haven't explored at all! This is absolutely friggin' ridiculous. I'm 45: what in the hell am I waiting for???

It's time to do the opposite. (A la George Costanza. :-)

From here on out it's a free-form, have a blast, see the country, kick-ass ADVENTURE!

I know it's wierd to comment on my own blog, but GOOD GRIEF, after all the blabber about going somewhere and TravelPod throws in 'where I stayed: home'?? Well, that's just a kick in the butt - it won't say that for long!
