Where I stayed
The first stop of the day was Woolrich, PA. http://www.woolrich.com/woolrich/company/flagshipStore.jsp
This is a great stop for quality clothing at bargain prices. The store also carries a limited amount of home goods. We made a few purchases in the clearance section on the "last reduction" rack.
After the shopping we headed northeast on PA Route 414. This route takes you through state forest and runs along Pine Creek. There are miles of rolling hills with twists and turns. The scenery is top notch and a lovely bike trail parallels some sections of the road. About midway on Rt 414 is the tiny and charming village of Cedar Run
Continuing we stopped for lunch at the historic Penn Wells Hotel in Wellsboro. The hotel has recently been renovated and looks great. The dining room is large and formal with outstanding service and food.
The next stop was dissapointing. We always enjoyed the Call of the North Gift Shop in Gaines, PA. However, it is now closed and looks like it has not been open for some time. So we turned south at Galeton on Route 44 and along the way we found the Black Forest gift shop. This was small but an acceptable substitute.
The last stop of the day was in Waterville, PA. There is a classic country store here that we enjoy. Lance had ice cream while I looked around. We found a Christmas gift, so we have a headstart for the holidays. We drove through Lock Haven and returned to The Nature Inn. It was a lovely day with blue skies and temps in the 70's....doesn't get much better than this.
