We passed few a few places along the coast during the night and early the next morning on our way to 1770 but none that made us want to stop. We reached our destination in the afternoon of the next day. Greyhound dropped us in the middle of nowhere and a mini-bus transported us the rest of the way. Turns out we were actually staying in Agnes Water instead of 1770, which is another few kilometres away.

On our first day we just relaxed as we didn't get much sleep on the bus the night before. That evening, I wanted to see the beach so we took a wander down and walked along the beach for a bit. After a while we saw some steps that led up from the beach so we decided to go have a look. A path led through a wooded area and we came out on a road with a conveniently placed bar. Not ones to ignore fate, we went in for a drink!

When we came back out we were at odds with eachother as to which direction led back to the town. We started going in the opposite direction to the one I wanted to go in but it became clear we were going the wrong way - not that Simon would admit it! In the end we had to compromise in the fading light and made our way back to the beach to go back the way we came. Both our phones were low on battery and we were using the torches in them for light, hoping they would last the journey. Once our eyes adjusted to the limited light, we realised there were still some crazy people swimming in the sea!

We managed to get back without any further drama and planned to relax and watch a DVD in the common room. When we got back Mamma Mia had just started. We watched about 15 painful minutes of it, making us wish we were still lost! Terrible film.

The next day, I wanted to see 1770 so we rented a cycling contraption to get us there. It was a two-seater thing - hard to explain but look at the photo's to see what I mean. It was absolute torture - worse than the cycling we'd done in Asia!!! We looked completely ridiculous and the bike weighed a ton. Also, it was mostly uphill the whole way there with only one hill down (that was fun though!). We were wrecked by the time we got through those long and painful 5KM. Once we were able to breathe again, Simon christened it the 'Torture Bike'.

1770 definitely wasn't worth it - it's a little fishing village and not much of a beach. After a while, we headed back, telling ourselves that it must be all downhill on the way back - not so! It was mostly flat and there was the steep hill that we whizzed down on the way out to contend with. We somehow managed to make it back to the hostel, chained up the bike from hell and grabbed a few beers from the bar to forget our misery - yet another of my great ideas that Simon hasn't forgiven me for! We left Agnes Water the next day to make our way to Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.
