My friend Nigel celebrated his 50th in style in Marrakech, Morocco. He and his soon to be wife Anne love Marrakech, and it's one of my favourite places in the world too. The first time I went to Marrakech was about four years ago, with my friend Mary. I was enchanted, and had never imagined I would love it so. It only takes a couple of hours flying from London, yet it was the most foreign/exotic place I had been then.. having only been to Russia and China before. I loved Marrakech, known as the "red city" for its clay walls and ramparts. So much so that when I stopped working, I celebrated by spending four days there (the timing coincided with my birthday in early March). The city has changed a lot in just that short span of time, there's a feeling of optimism, it's cleaner, there's a good natured buzz in the air, and it's crazy in a good way and quite sensual/sensational
Nigel's party was "formidable" as they say in France. Set in the most stunning location, we slept in the most luxurious and lovely riad, we ate at the most fine and exotic restaurants, but more than that, we revelled in eachothers' company. Meeting friends of Nigels that felt like old friends, even if we had not met before. The weekend was a gift from the birthday boy.. and one of the greatest gifts I've ever received. Nigel and Anne will marry in London in September of this year. The Marrakech crowd did not say goodbye/so long when we parted ways, we said "See you soon!" and we are all looking forward to the wedding weekend ahead. It's bound to be a beauty.
Onward for the Marrakech photos...
