Santiago for the 3rd time!!
Entry 59 of 64 | show all | print this entry |
This was our 3rd visit to the city, we had visited it as the first port of call when we arrived into the continent over a month ago, then we passed through it half way through our time on the continent, and now we had 2 days here to at least get out of the airport. The city itself is not on the usual list of places to visit, but its close proximity to the Andes and the Pacific coast is what brings tourists here. From the time you get out into the city, you realise how modern and Western the city is. Its more like a European or American city, with relaxed traffic (unlike the nutters on the road elsewhere in South America), modern apartments and quite reserved locals. We had planned to try and head into the mountains to do some snowboarding, but by the time we were in the city, we had had enough of travelling and decided to take things easy and not venture out on any further excursions. We just spent the days checking out the small city centre, and the outer areas. It was quite strange to be in a place with little to do but pass the time relaxing!! Something we had not really done much during our time in South America, where there is always the crazy mountain to climb, or the beach to go and check out or the sea to swim in.
