After a few hours rest, we got our coach back to Indira Ghandi Internatoinal Airport, and back onto Flight BA145 for Dhaka. Luckily we were advised the fog had cleared in Dhaka, so we were good to go. The only spanner in the works was that we had missed our connecting flight to Sylhet, due to the delay. As we were going to arrive around 10pm, there were no internal flights that day, and we would have to get the flight in the morning.
Just after we got through security, I was greeted by someone from the Best Western hotel, which we had booked to stay in the night before!!! They knew we were on the flight, and had come back to pick us up, even though the booking was for the night before! We soon were whisked through the crazy Dhaka traffic to our hotel for the night.
I had stayed at the hotel before, what I hadn't realised was that there seems to have been a new night market established outside the place. The earplugs were a godsend! Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. Its a very industrial city, and suffers from smog, this was the thing which caused our delay getting here, along with the fog. We were not planning to spend any time in the city, other than to catch our connecting flight to Sylhet, where my family live. The city makes Delhi look very modern and organised. After a ropy nights sleep we got up to catch our internal flight to Sylhet. We managed to get a seat, and got onboard. The flight to sylhet is a 45 minute journey. The actual distance is not too great, in UK terms, however the roads are not in a very good state and the road journey would have been a good 5 hours. We arrived just before lunch, over 2 days after we left the UK!
We were greeted by members of my family. This was the first time my dad had met Marie. We were very glad to have got there finally. My brother also managed to time his trip to coenside with ours, so we got to spend the time with him and his family. After our first lunch together, we went to say hi to all the other extended family, who all live within the grounds of the original family home. Saying hi was an extended affair, as it was the first time they had met Marie. More thumbnails ...
