After the altitude, the cold and the dry climate of the altiplano, a while in the pampa was more than welcome ! : humidity of more than 90%, temperature flirting with 35 C, Maria was in her element ! on top of that our arrival in Trinidad coincided with her birthday so she had the right to stay in a five star hotel for 2 nights, after 3 months spent in backpacker hostals (so did I !!)!
Trinidad is a city that we enjoyed, (we were almost the only tourists) we could a rent moto for nothing and ride on the dirty roads (without helmet of course) towards little fishing harbours or laguns. Take a swim in a lagun there, is a bit scary because of all the fishes that run into you but after a while we get use to it.
After 2 days spent doing nothing apart from enjoying the swimming pool of the 5 star hotel and riding motos, we went on a trip for 4 days in the Pampa ! the pampa is a very flat land where all the bolivian cows come from. It is very wet, with a lot of rivers and it is full of animals: Caimans, anaconda, turtlles, exotic frogs, capiwaras, dears, monkeys, pink dolphins, and a lot of birds (specially parots)
We have been able to fish and eat Piraņas, and I have to say that it is excellent !
Originally we had to catch a flight and come back to La Paz straight after the boat trip, but we enjoyed so much the atmosphere, very different from the altiplano that we decided to continue our trip through the pampa. Bolivia is really different here and it looks more to Venezuela or Brazil than to the andes we had known so far. People and the culture are very different as well: the traditional music from the andes is replaced here by the reggaeton !! I am not surprised that people from the pampa want their independance and dont feel part of the same country.

Trinidad I
. Our guide was a very nice and very old man. He was 73, but he looked like 93. At the beginning we were wondering with Maria if he would last the 4 days ! he came with his grandson and 2 germans also joined the group. Ignazio ( the grand father) revealed to be and incredibly experienced and knowledgeable man from who we learned a lot. During those days, we have been able to see all those animals and to get quite deep in the pampa. Waking up with the sound of monkeys and parots, sleeping with the sound of the amazonian nature, observing caimans, is a experience that I recommend to everybody. We have been able to fish and eat Piraņas, and I have to say that it is excellent !
