After 2 weeks in Venezuela, our second visited country is Ecuador.
We arrived at Quito on Saturday 7/06 by plane. The arrival on the city is quite impressive as it is in a valley surrounded by 5000 m peaks.
Quito´s elevation (2850 m) made us a bit breathless, and walking up and down in the city looking for our hostel has been quite tiring.
The first vision we have from Ecuador is that this country is very different from Venezuela. The 30 years old cars and favelas are absent from Quito, it is a modern city, and we have the impression to be a lot closer to Europe than we were in Venezuela.
2 days in Quito is a good time to get an overview of the city architecture and atmosphere. The old town with its charming old buildings and its numerous churches, and the New town with its trendy bars and night clubs.
The third day, we went to climb the closest peak: el Rucu Pichincha (4700m) in order to enjoy the view on the city and to train a bit before more serious summits.
In the next few days, we will go south through the Volcanoes´ valley, deeper in the Andes and closer to the indian populations.
