Santa Elena has a new bus station on the edge of town, about a 10 minute walk from my hotel. I found the bus I needed and after a few minutes we were on our way. This made much more sense to me than the bus terminal in the middle of the market, but despite the new station, the bus still went through the market! What a scene!
San Ignacio is a cool small town with a nice relaxed atmosphere. There is also a center for rain forest medicinals and Mayan Abdominal Massage. Through the massage web site I had made contact with a practitioner in San Ignacio and made an appointment for Friday. Turned out to be a very good idea because the day I left Tikal my neck started to hurt. Over the next few days it spread to my back and then shoulder and by the time I saw Pia I was a mess! She gave me a fantastic massage! I made an appointment for a follow up on Monday and that helped even more. Pia is from England and has lived in Belize for 30 years. She's a fantastic massage therapist and a fun person to chat with. Turns out the cafe where I had my morning coffee is run by her daughter and I saw Pia there a couple of times. Small town life!
Because I was feeling pretty punk the whole time I was there, I didn't do much of anything other than wander around town and try the local cafes. I did get to see Slumdog Millionaire which was a highlight. Great movie! I liked the town well enough that I started looking at land and houses on the web. It's still an occasional thought that I ought to buy a simple place to eventually call home. And this place appealed to me.
