Back in the USA...my oldest son, Michael, was marrying Jamey in Utah. I flew to Denver and spent a little time in Colorado and then headed west. My friend Suzanne lent me her Subaru so I could make a little road trip and I head southwest over the San Juan mountains and towards Bluff, Utah. From there I headed south past Mexican Hat and Monument Valley.
I've driven this route
many times but it had been quite a few years and I felt really grateful to be able to make this incredible trip. I also felt really grateful for the 27 years I had Hotchkiss as a home base to explore all this incredible country!
At Tuba City, AZ I headed north and spent the night in Kanab, UT. The next day I got to Las Vegas and checked into my room at the Sahara. I spent the rest of the day lounging by the pool enjoying the heat. Delightful!
Las Vegas is not exactly my kind of place but I was here because I was meeting my aunt at the airport. Yes, the same lively aunt from Holland. I picked her up and we headed to Springdale and the Cliffrose Lodge where the wedding was taking place. This hotel is right next to Zion National Park and the beautiful gardens have awesome views of the rocks. The whole family - 18 of us - were staying there and it was a great place to have a wedding. On Friday night we had a rehearsal dinner at a Mexican restaurant in town.
The wedding ceremony took place Saturday in the garden at the hotel. Parker, Josh & Taylor each had a role in the ceremony. But it looks like Parker didn't care for certain parts of the ritual...
After all the picture taking, we sat down under a large tent where we ate a fabulous meal. And then the dancing began! Great fun!
On Sunday we headed back towards Colorado. We spent the night in Moab and took the river road to Cisco - a beautiful route! We spent a night in Steamboat with Suzanne and then headed back to Boulder and Welmoed headed back to Holland.
