After checking in at the hotel, a swim in the pool, and a rest we set off to the Memo Club for the start of the music festival and dinner. It was interesting that they had decided to run 2 stages - one inside for the Thursday night and early Friday and Saturday evenings then moving outside after 7.00pm.

Even more interesting - when we went outside, there were very few tables (maybe 6) and not a great number of chairs. The empty space between those chairs and tables and the stage was amazing! It took ages and people bringing dining chairs out before management decided to round up more suitable chairs. Guess thay will have a better idea next year if they run it again.

We had arranged to meet Bryce (from Mission Australia) there, so it may sound odd, but seeing a familiar face was a real pleasure! Bryce has lived here for 26years, so is as close as it gets to being local especially if you start out in NZ! Also ran into Deanella from the girls camp on Friday night and Brett and Steph from Pt Germein on Saturday night. The beauty of small towns - familiar faces!!

John exceeded all expectations at the festival - we stayed to see Wilbur Wilde and Angry Anderson - Wilbur was to come on at 11pm and Angry at 12. The program was running behind schedule all evening and Angry didn't appear until after 12.30am. We watched him for a while but weren't impressed enough to stay for his whole set. Wilbur Wilde was more entertaining. Two bands supplied most of the big noise - Cold Snap from Melbourne and The Giants - not sure where they are from and then there were several solo acts. All in all, we were glad we had the chance to go and dress up a little!

Sunday we went around to Brett & Steph's place - a real house with people we know!!! We had a lovely relaxing afternoon with frequent dips in their pool and spa. So nice!! An hour or two quickly turned into five! At least Steph's car did get its new battery fitted. It just took a while! They are planning to come out here for a visit - maybe next weekend. Those of you who follow AFL - keep your eye out for Errin Walsh-Black in the next couple of years. Errin is Brett's son and has just returned from Sth Africa as part of an Australian touring team. He was the only NT rep and at 17, Brett expects that he will get picked up in the next draft.

Alice Springs is a complex and interesting place. Most houses have high fences all around. Flower gardens are so unusual they warrant a photo!. Lots of unit blocks are behind security gates. At home the supermarkets have Parcel Pickup points. Not here - Bush Order pick ups are the go. Around the shopping centres, security have a high profile. Many of the security people here are black - African origin. Houses for aboriginal people are in small clusters with lots of netting fences.

Eventually we had to head home - sorry, 'go back out bush'. On our way, a very lean dingo was ambling along the road towards us. He wasn't too concerned that we were close at all. Guess the road is an easier path than the rocky hills. Cattle are still fat in here. So much feed around still growing from the rains amonth ago.

Check out the frog in the hand basin. How can I brush my teeth with eyes staring at me from the plughole? The flush record stands at 9 by the way!

Frogs disappear in the daytime! You just have to turn the light on at night to avoid surprises on the seat!
