Just a quick post on what has been going on lately. I was able to go home in September for Sarah and Ivan's wedding, which was beautiful. I was so glad to be able to be there and enjoy the comforts of home (for a few days at least). I was also able to make some headway on the old grad school applications, so say your prayers to Dios that I get into a program!! Back on the Peace Corps front, I have been really busy since I got back. I went and picked up 25 sets of ceramic pieces for my stoves (see my Flickr account for pictures) and installed 30 water filters. I am in the process of soliciting more filters for the families who didn't get one in the first go-around, so we will see if that happens. I am wrapping up my educational workshops for the ceramic stoves and getting busy with construction, so stay tuned for photos. I have been fighting off a nasty cold for two weeks and I have been unable to equalize the pressure in my left ear from my flight back to the DR. I am going to the doctor today to see if she can do anything for me. I told Dad that I finally understand his trials and tribulations of going through life only being able to hear out of one ear. If it doesn't get better I am going to have to find myself an old-fashioned ear trumpet or something. Ha ha. In general, things are just clicking along and I am almost to the 6 month mark. Crazy!! I have a lot of work left to do, but I can say that my second year has been more productive than my first and I feel like I am truly settled in and getting something accomplished.
I am looking forward to Mom and Dad's visit in the end of October and showing them around this island that is my home for the time being! Everyone in my site is really excited to meet more of my family members, so it will be fun. My dog is still doing well, despite our ongoing debate over who is the alpha dog in our house. She seems to think it is her, and I am trying to convince her that I am, in fact, the boss . . . without a lot of success I might add! She is excited to meet her abuelos (grandparents) in October :)
In a final note, a big congratulations to my big sister Paula who passed her bar exam!! We are all pround of our esquire of the family and wish her the best. Hope you are all well. Take care of yourselves and keep in touch!
