Dear Family and Friends,
Well, here is the first official post on my blog! I am at my hotel in Miami, where I have been since yesterday at my Peace Corps "staging" event. This basically involves getting to know my fellow trainees and learning a whole freakin' lot of Peace Corps policies and procedures. There were a few fun activities thrown in too . . . let's just say there were skits involved. It has all been exhausting and a little overwhelming. I hardly slept on Monday night and by the end of yesterday I was ready to fall over. It has been good though and the other people in my group are friendly and all seem like neat people. My roommate is a girl named Laura from Colorado.
We leave early tomorrow morning for the airport, then we will be in the DR by tomorrow afternoon! I am feeling a mixture of excitement, nerves, and wondering what in the world I have gotten myself into. I am sure as time goes on and things unfold, it will get better and I will start to have a handle on what to expect. For now though, it seems like a whirlwind! I miss you all so much and think of you every day. I had so many amazing goodbye dinners and events, and I can't thank you all enough for sending me off with so much love. I will cherish those memories while I am huddling under my mosquito net wondering what in the world I am doing!! Lots of love to everyone. I'll post again as soon as I can.

i love that you have a blog. it will be so great to get to see all of your adventures. i'm sure it's scary- especially the part about the 'skit'- I would like to know if you were part of that :). seriously- your courage is amazing. what a wonderful opportunity. i'm so excited for you to be my 'friend who does good things.' can't wait until you get to the dominican and get settled. i will pray for your safety, emotional sanity and mostly that you have the chance to use your gifts to help who need it most. awesome. love you. Abby
