A little detour

When I looked on the train timetables, I realised that my good friend Philipp was only 3 hours away from Berlin. This was an opportunity not to be missed, and so after some hasty reorganisation, I hopped on a train to see him. He is just about to start exams, so I was really grateful to him for opening his door.
Bremen is much smaller than I expected - my tour from Philipp of the Altstadt lasted about 2 hours, with a 30 minute ice cream break! I did get a picture with the 4 musicians of Bremen though, so I am content. The next day while Philipp had to attend classes I headed into Hamburg to see the sites. The most impressive was the remains of an old church, with the tower still standing, which is now an anti-war memorial. After that I got a bit lost for a few hours and just wandered round, until I realised I was in a not-so-good area, and made a fast exit. Luckily I made it to the harbourfront, where I just sat and pondered my useless navigation skills.
Although Hamburg also has an older part, the feeling I got there was much more of a commercial city than everywhere else I've been.

Hi Mareli the travels seem to be going well and you also seem to have shaken off the creepy men - is it the fake wedding ring doing its stuff?? Bavaria sounds great but I'm afriad that my father had a hand in the current state of Hamburg. We are following your travels in the office but questions have been asked as to the whereabouts of the famous pink haired troll as he/she/it has not appeared in ... show all
