Traffic, discovery and general mayhem

After the miserable weather earlier today, it cleared up nicely, and as it was our last day in Paris we felt we couldn't waste it. A Canadian girl sharing the room with me had heard of a part of Paris that was relatively un-touristy, so off we went to change that! It is near someplace called Place de Vosges, and the area around it seems to be some sort of Jewish community. There were lots of really tempting pastry shops, but as I'd already had around 5E worth I skipped it. There are plenty of buildings dating to before the revolution, and since she spoke French, we had a little guided tour round the place! It was wonderful not to have to fight through crowds of Japanese cameras...
Afterwards we visited the Moulin Rouge (about 10 minutes' walk from our hostel, I discovered, quite shocked of course!). After a picure or two we made a quick exit!
The Canadian and I had a dinner of 'fake' foie gras, bread and salad (thankfully not more cheese!), and met plenty of the new travellers that had arrived that day. In summary, I have three things to say about my stay in Paris: 1. They're not all bad. 2. There are way too many steps everywhere, and this insistance that you climb them made me shed a few pounds! 3. The drivers are all clearly insane, and the Arc de Triomphe is definitely the world's biggest traffic jam. More thumbnails ...

Bonjour Mareli, Glad to see that you enjoyed your time in Gay Paris! The French are not bad at all - you just encountered Parisians (the natives in London are no better as when i lived there I hated the tourists!)
Still stuck in Warwick - Tamsin is off to Barbados in June but my travel plans for the next few months are very barren.
I read your comments (and saw the photo) of St Sulpice - i... show all
