I was hopeing this would be an easy journey and it was more or less just took a while, but oh my god is the scenary on these southern roads of Ecuador unreal. You are just so high up on crap roads snakeing around the mountains and see these vast valleys below you and still there are crackin peaks high above, its incredibe. A hill here is bigger than a mountain in Ireland or what we call them anyway.
When i got into Cuenca i checked into the Hotel Norte which seemed good despite the building site next to it. I had already arranged with Trevor an Irish guy i had met in Huaraz a few weeks previous to meet him here. Anyway i checked out a little bit of Cuenca and met up with Trevor when he arrived a little later in the evening. It was out for drinks and dinner. As we were walking home.. Trevor jinxed us and says he had not seen any Rats in south america yet and had i seen any... No i said but bet there are some about this building site. We turn onto the lane where the hotel is and the first thing i see is several rats wandering about... fuck.. i hate them so we took the long way round to the hotel.
Following day was spent wandering about cuenca sampling stuff from a crackin bakery and visiting the Panama making hat capitol of the world. Cuenca is really clean and has a lot of cobbled streets and traffic is not too bad. Hit the market for lunch which was gift, all outdoors and all the stalls had full cooked pigs and the pork they served was bloddy amazing.. Food hygene may leave a lot to be desired around here but who cares when the food is that good.
Rest of the day was spend about town and sorting out an onward journey to Peru and then went for more food and a couple of drinks. Decided i would get some sleep in as needed to get up at 5 for a poxy bus and in my room i could here plastic rustling and i figured it may be the wind but after a minute i knew it had to be some sort of Vermon.. so i knocked on the light and all i caught was the tail but it was either a mouse or a rat trying to chew on any empty plastic wrapper hanging from a pocket on my bag.. I hope it was a mouse but after that fuck all sleep did i get.. Couldnt find the fucker in the roo which was big but there was a big gap under my door so i figure the little shit left unseen.. 5am couldnt come soon enough after that.
