Where I stayed
It was a reasonably early morning bus out of Granada heading south for a town called Rivas (shithole) to connect to the island of Ometepe on lake Nicaragua. The bus took the usual shit journey and we had to wait an hour or so at the ferry dock where we met Rosco and Iwona, eventually we got the ferry over to Moyagalpa 22km across the lake to the main town on the island, from there it took an unbelievable two and a half hours to go less than 20km on bus to the south west of the island to a viollage called Merida... this journey destroyed all of us. The roads were just dirt roads mostly and at this stage it was dark and i was starving but there was a god.. we arrived at the hostel Hacienda Merida and they had a massive buffet just starting so i tore into that and i think they are sorry they ever saw the likes of me.
Isla de Ometepe is famous for two volcanoes that actually formed the whole island thousands of years ago, it also has some great beaches on the lake and some beautiful national parks and waterfalls, so it was well worth the couple of days out there
We also did a 14km round trip walk to the cascading waterfalls which was pretty cool, almost stepped on a snake on the path too.. but when it saw me it kind of slide or ran off... however snakes move..lol.. i didnt think much of it but turns out the fecker is highly poisonuous.
The morning we were leaving Merida to get back to the port 8 of us decided to pool in and get our own taxi to save us the agony of the shit bus.. so after the buffet breakfast... again my moneys worth it was a much smoother ride back to Rivas on the mainland.

. Myself and Harti decided to skip climbing the volcano's here as they are notoriously covered in cloud and its a good 8 or 12 hours return walk depending and you may see jack shit... But we did Kayak out on the lake and you got great views of the islad and volcano's from there which was cool ad also made out way out to monkey island where the evil little monkeys are vicious as hell and bare there fangs at you... just as well the little feckers cant swim or no doubt they would leap at the kayak. We also did a 14km round trip walk to the cascading waterfalls which was pretty cool, almost stepped on a snake on the path too.. but when it saw me it kind of slide or ran off... however snakes move..lol.. i didnt think much of it but turns out the fecker is highly poisonuous.
