Still geting used to the culture in Belize, the accents are so differnt and the Carribeans are so laid back its great. My latest bus journey took me through Belmopan which is the capital of Belize and on then to Belize city the former and still unofficial capital of Belize. I cant say that there is a whole lot in either city but it was my gateway to the Cayes. just a few miles off the coast there were 3 massive cruise ships docked and so many westerners wandering around the cities port and docks. Anyway i jumped on a speedboat heading for Caye Caulker which takes about an hour. The boatride was pretty cool and the water colour is pristine along the way. Once we got onto caye caulker i found meself a hostel... The hammocks out on the waterfront had caught me attention. So off i went for a wader about the island which is quite small and split in two when a big ass hurricane ripped through it a few years back. I ran into Andy a guy from Denver i had met in Tikal, and he is traveling all the way to Brazil on his motorbike. Ahh the carribean
Ahh the carribean
. sometrip.. Anyway we got a few drinks and lunch and booked into the Blue hole dive trip for early the following morning. the blue hole is about 60km off the island coast and is one of the most famous dive sites in the world. So had to set off at 5.30 in the morning to meet at the dive shop for breakfast. The blue hole was great going down to 45 meters and swimming in and out of staligtites and watching a 3.5 meter carribean reef shark swimming around us. The shark was just massive. anyway from there we did another dive on a nearby reef and had lunch on a tiny island with a massive bird population. We had one more dive to do then on another reef where we saw all kinds of fish and turtles and it was back then to the cayes for a well deserved drink and a lobster dinner.. you can get lobster here everywhere and its so cheap. The following day myself and Andy got our hands on a Kayak and went around the entire island stopping off to snorkle and swim whereever it looked good which was a lot of fun. Another lobster dinner was called for on my last nite on the Cayes.
