Well Gisbourne is the city of bridges along with being the first city in New Zealand to see the sunrise... Not that i was planning to get up to watch the sunrise. I had already stopped off at Whakatane so it was late enough before i got to Gisbourne on the east coast. I managed to book into the Flying nun backpackers which was a former convent and was run by the strangest woman.. bit of an odd ball.. The hostel was full of Germans and i was definitly the odd one out. I went out and got a chinese meal for dinner and took a quick look around the town before it got too dark. folowing day i visited a couple of monuments in the town and a walk over several of the bridges.. Captian cook landed here back in the 17th century.. massacured a few of the locals left them a few diseases and took off again.. strange they would leave a monument for him but anyway its an attraction. Gisbourne itself is really nice and in one way is pretty isolated as it is quite a distance to any other reasonable sized towns. Drove on south again passing through Napier and on to windy wellington..
