Takaka was the venue for my nights rest.. This town has a real hippy feel its full of organic shops and cafes and full of Hippie's too.. No shortage of Dope around here either i reckon.. not so much as a sinner out on the street at night yet you could smell the funny stuff. I was laughing to myself cos on all the notice boards about town was work advertised for "Woofers"... now i hadnt a clue what a woofer is but appearantly its a traditional straw and muck kinda house and they need woofers to build them.. load of these tree hugger type people who live about here build these eco friendly homes.. anyway i thought it might be interesting to see how they build them and half thought about signing up or ringing about a job but they dont even pay you.. but would give you free board and food.. but its all vegetarian.. so yeah i wasnt signing up for that..
Anyway Takaka is nice though .. so from here i drove on to Collingwood and then out to cape farewell and the Farewell spit which is the northern most part of the south island and the bloddy windiest too.. Drove around on a load of gravel roads up there and took a good look around before hitting the road for The Abel Tasman national park.. i took a drive off road again and a good walk to take a look at the Hardwood hole... a big ass hole cave thing in the middle of a forest... stunning views from all around up here and in the valley. It was on then to the park
