So after geting back from visiting Rachel.. My new mission was to find a job get a bank account buy a car get a tax number and find a house to live in... not all in that order but thats what i needed to sort. I thought id look for a job first and there were loads of cabinet maker jobs in the paper which sounded good so off i went and did an interview and the guy offered me a job straight away.. happy days i was thinking... until wage negociating started.. The pay is Shite.. really shite.. I suppose i shouldnt compare prices to home but its hard not too... Im already thinking ..you dont come to new zealand to make or save money but i just wanna sustain my travel etc while im here on whatever i earn here.. Anyway into Hays the recruitment agency with my bullshit cv and got offered a job as a carpenter there.. More money.. still not great pay but very good money for the average here so i took it. Building retirement houses and disabled houses for the elderly on a site just outside the city.
Pain in the ass was i had to go buy a load of tools all of which i have anyway at home.
In the mean time i opened a bank account which was hassel free and got my IRD number for tax hassel free too.. was only in the tax office 5 minutes that would have been a 5 hour ordeal in Dublin.
I also had to get meself steeltoe cap boots for work and some other crap and was already to start work then on friday the 2nd of Febuary. Got the bus to work for a 7am start and that nearly killed me geting up at 6am.. I should add that this is the first day i had worked sine mid september....lol. ..poxy reality now.
Work was grand and was laid back but with the boots i got i ended up geting blisters on the back of both my heels which were dam sore and as i worked saturday too it didnt help them and i was limping by saturday evening. Always get blisters playing badminton so i wasnt too fased.. On saturday i met another irish guy in the hostel .. Karl from cork so we went out for a few drinks and checked out a few bars. By the time i got up sunday morning the blisters werent looking good so i wound up going to a medical clinic to see a doctor cos the stupid things had got badly infected. Antibiotics for a week and told not to work till wednesday.. Not good 3rd day of new job and im out sick.. lol.. Tuesday was a national holiday called Waitangi day so day off anyway... i thought it would be like paddys day with some craic going on but most of the bars were closed and the place was dead but me and Karl found an open bar and joined the Murphys 100 club.. Ie.. you drink a 100 pints of Murphys and you get ur name printed up on a board in the bar.. I checked out all the names on the board and there isnt a Murphy surname on it yet, so will see what i can manage.
I was back in work on wednesday having got rid of the other boots and my feet bandaged up and fuck was it agony working. Wednesday thursday and friday i limped through work in pain. Didnt work saturday this time and was glad of the lie in.
In the mean time i had done a bit of searching for cars and houses but no luck on either so far. Most of the weekend was spent in the Christchuch bars.. not much of an excuse required and on saturday Rachel came down from Blenihim for the weekend so we were out the saturday and sunday nite. Sunday myself and Karl went to look at a house which was nice but they had some crappy rules about no tv after midnite and no use of kitchen after midnite so both of us decided that was a no no to live there. We went out for a drive then with rachel to the beach and did a few christchurch sites. I found myself a little car to buy then on sunday nite.. A little 1988 Mitsubishi mirage which is in pristine condition.. so that should get me about for the forseeable future all going well... all u have to do is make sure it has a warrent of fitness to drive and is registered and thats it.. no insurance required unless u want extra cover... bloddy marvelous.. Ohh and petrol is stinking cheap here too compared to home.
It was back to work on monday for me and dont have to limp so much now even though heels are still well tender. Rachel headed back home to blenhim on monday evening and thats been my last 2 weeks ish in christchurch.
