Made my Air Asia flight from Bali to KL on the 4th of Jan.... Must have collected a shit load of air miles with them at this stage. Anyway i had bought a book in Bali just before i left called Damage Done ..which is about an australian guy who gets nailed for smuggling heroin out of thailand and winds up in the Bangkok Hilton for 12 years... Anyway brilliant book and will make you think twice about carrying anything other than malaria tablets in asia.. So was reading this all the way on the plane and never bothered looking at lonely planet to see where airport is in KL or where to stay. So when i landed i discovered the airport was 75km outside the poxy city and there is no bus'es either ...ohh its midnite at this stage.. Bollox... anyway met an english couple and shared a taxi with them to the Golden triangle area in KL.. Taxi was a steal anyway about 10 euro. By time i got to KL it was 1am and first hostel i went to was full so there is nothing like walking about late at nite with a stupid big bag looking for somewhere to stay.
The next day myself and dave did a city tour walk covering a lot of the city from little india to chinatown and then went all about Meraka square which is a really nice part of the city. My last day in KL i spent seeing another park with panoramic views of the city and got a haircut which is always an experience in Asia. My last morning i got up at 7am to go to petronas towers to que for a ticket up.... its free up but u have to be there real early in morning to go up.. You go up to the sky bridge on the 42nd floor for a view etc so that was really cool...(it was in that movie entrapment with zeta jones and connery a few years ago). Back then to the hostel met dave and we went to catch a bus north to the Cameron Highlands. Definitly well impressed with KL, clean spacious no dodgy smells and plenty to do... Clean being the missing bit form most other cities ive been to lately..lol
Batu caves entrance
. Anyway got another place around the corner and checked in there. My first day in KL i headed on a wee tour so went up to top of the Needle tower thing.. KL tower i think its called not to be confused with the Petronas twin towers to which i headed next.. Smashing views from top of needle even though weather was overcast. the area by petronas towers is called KLCC and has a big mall there and really nice city centre park so visited all of that and its a really nice place to hang out. I then jumped on the monorail and headed for Chinatown where i found some dam good food and a crazy market. I met several sound people in the hostel and the following day myself and Dave from Scotland headed off to Batu caves which is a little outside the city. There is a few hundred steps to climb in baking heat and a temple at the top so was well impressed with this. on way home we hit chinatown again. The evening of the 6th of Jan was the 50 year celebration of Malaysia independence and off myself dave and Amanda went to the festival... eventually got there by a highly entertaining taxi driver. Anyway festival comprised of a few speeches by the prime minister... not a word did i understand but the fireworks were good.. unfortunatly KL has scum bags too and Amanda had her purse keys and camera robbed out of her handbag so than kind of spoiled the evening so we brought her out for a few drinks to cheer her up. Also had to pick the lock on her locker with a nail file for her so she could get her passport and credit card out back at the hostel.... The hostel couldnt find a spare key and werent too happy with me opening it by alternate means... oh well. The next day myself and dave did a city tour walk covering a lot of the city from little india to chinatown and then went all about Meraka square which is a really nice part of the city.
