It was another hectic train ride from Xian to Chengdu and arrived in Sims garden guest house which has easily been the best place to stay to date. Now in Chengdu itself there is not a whole lot to see and we even had the army stopping us from walking down to see a monument.. another area where no foreigners are allowed. Anyway after wandering the city it was across town to a bar that was recommended which in fairness was shit. But the following morning we had booked in to do a tour to visit the pandas.
The tour and the guide were really good and you get right up close to all kinds of pandas big and small. The little feckers spend the whole day eating and then do what they do best which is sleep. So you have to go visit them in the morning or all you will see is a ball of fur rolled up. We were lucky to see them eating bamboo and it was the funniest sight ever. Panda there lying on his back munching on bamboo as fast as he could. We spent a few hours between the pandas and a museum thats next to the sight and it was back to the hostel. Definitly could have stayed longer there but had to keep moving south and not looking forward to a 26 hour train journey to Guilin.
