Bristol and beyond!
Entry 11 of 12 | show all | print this entry |
Well, the trip is coming to an end. I'm now in Bristol, with my mother, and tomorrow morning we go back to London for the final two nights. And then...home! Right now we're staying with friends (Andy and Teresa) at their house in Bristol. It's really nice being in a home again. Free internet, television, a proper bathroom, a washing machine, etc. Yesterday we went to Bath to see the musical Fame. It was excellent! I love musicals. And I have seen Fame before, the first time it came to Toronto, about 7 years ago. We also walked around Bath a bit beforehand, and after the show we went to a pub, in the middle of nowhere, for dinner. It was good! But man, are those English backroads scary! They're so narrow and so windy. There's only room for one lane, yet they're two-way streets...so it's kind of scary when another car comes along. I would not want to have to drive those roads. But as Andy said, you get used to it. Today we're not doing much. We're having a barbeque later this afternoon. And tomorrow Teresa is coming to London with us for the day, where we're also meeting another friend of my mother's (and Teresa's), Jane, at Harrods.
My time in London was good too. I went to Oxford as planned. It rained all day, so it was kind of sucky. But it was pretty and I did walk around some. When I got back to London I went to the Half-Price Ticket booth and got a ticket to see Woman in White. It's a new Andrew Lloyd Webber show. It was quite good. The ending kind of sucked, but the music was excellent and I loved the way they did the set. On Thursday I went to Madame Tussauds in the morning. It was neat. Crowded though. But the figures looked so real! And I walked around Regent's Park in the afternoon. At night I met Anthony (a family friend) and we went for dinner and then back to his place to watch some football. And then Friday morning I met my mother and we went out for a really good lunch and then hopped on the bus to come here!
Oh, and I've watched some rugby while I've been here (they're fanatics) and it's actually quite interesting. Better than football (soccer) anyways, and much better that American football. I liked the Rugby League better than Rugby Union though. Much more fluid and goes pretty quickly too. Now the only question is, where can I watch it at home???
