Airlie Beach
My 2 night stay in Airlie Beach was quiet. I had to place my car in a secure car park some distance away from the backpackers, so didn't have it to explore the local area. Instead I spent time on the beach relaxing, reading another book and wandered the main street window shopping. My room at the backpackers had a television so it was good to watch a football game and catch up with what had been happening in the news.
Airlie Beach is a pretty place, nestled around the edge of mountainous country beside the Whitsunday Islands. From the beach you can clearly see a number of islands. Many yachts anchored in the bays and others sailed in the calm waters. From the beach I witnessed people jumping from planes, sky diving down to land on the beach just 100 meters from where I was laying. All graceful in the air, for some though, the landing wasn't so terrific.
On the foreshore, Airlie Beach has a wonderful lagoon where many people swam, relaxed under palm trees and soaked up the sun.
