We spent one day in Washington DC visiting with Heather's cousin Matthew Smyth. To call the connection 'relative' is tenuous as he is my Great Grandmothers, cousin's husbands great-nephew (as I understand it). However we highly enjoyed visiting with him, he was a very gracious host and we had some great conversations.

We decided we would do Washington in a day and see as much as possible all by foot. We did pretty well. We managed the Following

- The White House
- The American History Museum
- The Natural History Museum
- The Gardens of the National Gallery
- The US Capitol
- The Native American Museum
- The Air and Space Museum
- The Washington Monument
- The Abraham Lincoln Monument

We also got to see the Presidents limo with the two small American flags at the front, and his helicopter as the G8 summit was going on in Washington while we were there.
We had very sore feet by the end of the day but we decided we are getting good at doing a city in a day, even if it is rushed and exhausting.

Oh unfortunately there was a lot of construction work going on in Washington. The famous pool of water leading up to the Washington monument was drained for maintenance and Washington Monument itself was closed for repairs due to an earthquake last year.

I hope you enjoy the photos.
