Wednesday 6th August

We left the Logan State Park at a reasonable hour and drove to Libby, Montana where we went to a visitors centre to collect a map of Idaho and where we were able to get a wifi connection. We had lunch there but did not stay that long.

We continued west until we arrived at Kootenai Falls. This is a spectacular part of the Kootanai river where it drops down a couple of flights of rocks in a violent bubbling torrent. As I was gazing at it I said to Steve that it reminded me of a movie that I had seen a few years ago with Meryl Streep in it about a white water rafting trip that went horribly wrong. I think it was called "River Wild". Steve said that was funny because he had just seen an article about the movie in the visitors centre, so we figured that this must have been where the movie was made. It was strange that I didn't have any idea but I had somehow recognised it from years ago! We will have to watch the movie when we get back to see if it was actually there.

We also crossed a suspension bridge a bit further down the river before heading back to the car park.

We took a bit of a detour off the highway onto a less busy road, and headed south for a bit. This was a beautiful drive along a valley up in the National Forest. We were not successful in finding a free camp so we went to a National Forest Service campsite for $10 a night and swam in a lake, lit a big roaring fire and had dinner with the mozzies! They're bad here man!
