Wednesday 2nd July
As we were getting close to 4th July we did a small hop to another State Park called 4 Mile Creek which is just north of Niagara Falls. On the way there we saw a place where we could pick our own cherries. It was amazing! The trees were heavily laden with them and they were all ripe and ready to eat. I have never had such beautiful cherries in my life. We picked a few pounds of them and put them in the fridge to eat later.
Our camp site was awesome! We parked next to 2 couples, one from Canada and one from Niagara. They were all very helpful when we grilled them about going to Niagara, where to get the cheapest fuel etc. we had a big decision to make as we were almost at the point of leaving the US for Canada through Niagara.
We still had 3 weeks of our 90 day visa left and we just didn't know what we were going to do next. What we really wanted to do was to go into Canada to cross Ontario and then re-enter the States into Michigan. This would keep us in a straight line heading west. The problem with this was that although we could come back into the States again, we were going to run out of visa time soon after and then we would have to leave the US and continue our journey by driving miles further north up into Canada . This in itself would be perfectly possible, as we have a 6 month visa for Canada, but the price of fuel is much less in US ($1.50 a gallon less), plus we haven't finished sightseeing in the states yet!
We just did not know what would be the best plan at all.
We went down to the little stony patch of beach to have a look at the lake and ponder our predicament and try to decide what we were going to do. The water looked so inviting..... so we rushed back to get our togs and sneakily went for a swim. (swimming was prohibited here). It was a luscious delectable, lifeguard-free illegal swim!!
We had dinner and cherries for dessert. Steve lit a campfire and we toasted marshmallows and chatted with the neighbours.
