After breakfast as we were just about to head away I went round the right side of the van to put something in one of the outside lockers only to find a gaping hole where a vent cover should normally be ( external fridge vent ). This was a bit of a shock. My initial thought was that Steve had taken it off to give it a clean but when I called him round it was obvious that this was not the case. We also thought may be it had fallen off yesterday. However it is a BIG panel and not one that I would have missed as I have to stand on that side to give Steve hand signals to reverse when we are parking. I had spent a while helping him as we were a long way from the power plug-in and so we had been trying to back up as far as possible.
When we looked around we noticed that a guy opposite also had exactly the same size hole in the side of his van. Steve went across to see if he had lost his overnight.... But he was French-from Quebec and didn't speak very good English. He was also rushing to get away. Then it dawned on us that it was a bit of a coincidence that his was missing and he was parked opposite us and there wasn't anyone parked either side of us. We had gone to bed quite early and it was pretty dark outside. So maybe he took it for himself? We will never know if it was him but we do know that it was there when we arrived at the campground!
After reporting this to the Police we left feeling annoyed and upset. It is not the sort of thing we could drive around without if we were to have the fridge running on gas. So we had to start thinking about finding a new panel.
To cheer ourselves up we went to Dunkin' Donuts and bought a dozen donuts and 2 cups of coffee!!! What pigs! They were ok, not as good as English jam ones though. That's the first time we have had them and I don't think we will have any more.
We did a bit of Grocery shopping and continued on to Bear Brook State Park New Hampshire. It was very nice here, in a campsite near a lake, in the trees.
We came here because we knew it had a laundry so I was able to rip into the washing for an hour or so.
There were very few people here and we were parked near the washrooms and the laundry which made things easier for us. Zach and Holly were able to cycle around on their own and Steve went for a big cycle by himself.
We had a swim in the Lake and the kids spent ages catching tadpoles!
Not much else happened but we had a lovely time here and were able to relax and enjoy ourselves while trying to avoid looking at the big hole in the side of the van.
