Thursday 5 June

We all left Harry and Kitty's today. Mike & Julie headed off to Morgantown to meet-up with family and we went to the Kentucky Horse farm with tickets kindly supplied by Kitty who works there as a volunteer.

Of course we had a swim before we left as it was an extremely hot day. We used the dump station at the Horse-park Campground and spent 4 very interesting hours learning all sorts about horses. The museum was one of the most informative we have been to and deserved more time that we could afford to explore it.

We did enjoy the parade of famous horses where we saw one called Cigar who had won just short of 1 million US$, we also went to the ring to see the parade of breeds where riders ride out lots of different breeds of horses dressed in relevant costumes Draught horses

. The commentary was excellent at both events. We didn't leave till after 4 pm and drove until dark towards Huntington, just inside West Virginia across the Ohio River, where we stopped overnight at a very, very hot and noisy Walmart. We had a little trouble getting there when we did a U turn into a Motel car-park that had a bigger than expected dip in it as you drove off the road. The rear end of the RV scrapped on the road a little because of the angle and we couldn't work out how we were going to get out without hitting the ground again. Eventually we decided to go cross country around the back of a recently demolished building next door and then diagonally across the next carpark to where the culvert wasn't so deep and we finally got back on the road. To do so was a mission involving driving over a quite high concrete nib, through some deep puddles and around rocks and bolders.
