Monday 26th May

Yesterday we saw loads of laundry places so today we decided to try and get some washing done. However we could not find the ones we saw yesterday! We decided to leave town and find one somewhere else.
We found one at Pergosa Springs at an RV park. They very kindly let us use their Laundry. While I was doing the washing Steve took Holly and Zach for a ride on a little pedalo on the lake close by. They had a lovely time while I watched the washing going round and round! Still I got it all done quickly and we were on our way again

We had a spectacular drive up through a mountain pass up to the summit at 11,000 feet. At this altitude we were in the snow zone so Holly and Zach wanted to get out and jump in it On the lake

. 2 snowmen later and we were back on the road heading down the hill. Being at 11,000 feet didn't really feel that dramatic to us as we have been constantly at around 7000 for a number of days now so we have become used to it.

Coming down the other side of these mountains was very different. In place of the lush green and pine trees of the mountains was flat sandy scrub land. It was also much hotter. We headed for Alamosa and then turned north towards the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

We stopped for the night at San Luis State Park which seemed like it was in the middle of no-where - that is because it was! Thanks for that little extra bit Steve... we just stopped to use a toilet and Steve has been adding to my writing. Please excuse the handwriting... it is a bit bumpy on this road.

At this campsite we saw a poor fellow who had managed to back his rented RV over the edge of the road which must have been very embarrassing for him and expensive seeing as he ha dto get a tow out.

It would be our worst nightmare and one we are very careful to avoid thanks to Steve being so practical.
