We woke early and drove to Disney about 5 miles away. We parked quite easily (yes they charged us $25NZ to park) and took the train to the park entrance. There we decided to buy a one day pass for Disneyland itself - we opted not to visit the other part of Disney - Californian Adventure.
I found it very interesting that the Disney people have decided that children are adults when they are 10 years old - children's tickets are for kids 9 and under and they don't have such things as family passes. Another point about tickets is that they don't give you any discount if you buy a 2 or three day pass
We had a fantastic time! The weather was superb, the queues were manageable (40 mins max) and we "did" pretty much everything.
We started, very adventurously, with the scariest ride "Space Mountain". What Zach must have been thinking would have been interesting. He was sitting next to me and I am sure he put his head down and closed his eyes. I wasn't really watching him much as I was struggling to hold on and manage my own senses.
The special effects, sound, animation, crowd control, lighting - the whole experience was mind blowing. I thought the best ride was the "Pirates of the Caribbean" it wasn't really a scary ride more an experience. At every turn were animated "Pirate" scenes. Canons, cutlasses, treasure, boats etc, not at all tacky, quite realistic and wonderfully constructed.
It is amazing what there is to do in the park
Each of us will individually write our own thoughts, and feelings about the day -
Caroline - well I have been to Disneyworld in Florida many times before so I pretty much knew what to expect. I felt a bit guilty taking Zach on Space Mountain first.. poor kid! Steve has pretty much said what I would have said, it really is pretty amazing. After the 7pm parade we decided to do some rides again for the last hour. We all wanted to do Space Mountain again, except Zach who really didn't. He wanted to go on the Star wars ride again so I took him while S&H did the scary stuff. Zach loved the Buzz Lightyear ride where you sit in cars moving along a track shooting at targets with a laser gun. So we did that twice too.
The kids were fantastic and did not whine or whinge, cry, demand anything, AT ALL, unlike other kids around us! They were superb.
We left about 9pm after Holly had finished trekking around the Disney store looking for bits and pieces. We decided not to leave the park immediately as the traffic would have been bad so we didn't get back to our RV Park until around 9.30. We were exhausted!
We were all happy that one day was enough and we certainly made the most of it as we went at a fast pace all day. The kids didn't seem to be bothered about missing out on Californian Adventure and from what we have heard and read, it is more for older kids and adults. We thought we had better not spend another fortune doing any more!
We saw the parade at 7pm and left at 8:30 pm. We were all very tired and didn't get to bed until quite late, so a sleep in was in order Friday.
