Woken by the 6.30am alarm for an 8am start. After breakfast we left for Angkor Wat. Had a good walk around Angkor Wat and took lots of photos. Very, very impressive!!!
After Angkor Wat we headed over to Angkor Thom (pronounced Tom) via the South Gate (statues depicting the churning of the ocean milk), the Bayon Temple (with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara), the Phimesnakas, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Managed to get all of this done in the morning so back to the hotel to beat the heat with a midday swim (Kids and their swimming!?!?!?).
Sunset was spent at Angkor Wat for photos, our last shopping items and entertaining the local kids and handing out lollies
Back to the hotel for a shower and then an explore of Siem Reap town. Had lunch at a local Thai place that was just as nice and half the price of the hotel - once again proving that when you're travelling always eat locally rather than in the hotel.
We're now all feeling very tired so are crashing out, feeling like a return visit is definately on the cards and wondering how long it will take me to categorize all of the photos.
Here is my recommended tour of Cambodia if you're thinking about coming.
Day 1 - Arrive in Phnom Penh and spend the afternoon at your hotel's pool.
Day 2 - City tour that includes the National Museum, Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Victory Monument and Wat Phnom.
Day 3 - The Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng museum. Afternoon in the hotel pool or exploring local markets, as long as you're back in the hotel by dark.
Day 4 - Morning flight to Siem Reap, afternoon in the pool. Go exploring to find a place for dinner.
Day 5 - Angkor Temples, sunset at the "mountain".
Day 6 - Angkor Temples, sunset at Angkor Wat.
Day 7 - Depart Siem Reap.
Of course the trip can be condensed by cutting out the swim time and touring the temples the same day as arriving/departing like we did but this does make for a long day. I'd also recommend sunrise at Angkor Wat if you can manage it.
