We were on the road for the coast around 11, cruising through more green rolling hills and a neverending stretch of small highway towns (so many antique shops!!). It wasn't too long before we reached Lincoln City. I happened to look down a street and at the end of that street was a wide open view of...THE OCEAN!!!! My excitement could not be contained...we needed to find a beach ASAP, and find one we did! We stopped and walked out onto the beach, which seemed to stretch for miles, but walking was just not cutting it...this girl needed to run! So much fun was had running and playing in the waves, we didn't want to stop. But we worked up a pretty good appetite, so we decided to head for the beachfront seafood restaurant nearby. Walking back to the car, we noticed an older couple with a bulldog getting into a vehicle with...Ontario license plates
The winding, twisting 101 took us through hills large enough to be mountains and along the coast...perfect for seeing all of the gorgeous million dollar homes dotting the coastline (jerks!!!). We were gasping in awe around every corner at the ocean view and the lush vibrant greenery. A quick stop at the Sea Lion Cave was a welcome break from sitting in the car...we got to see so many sea lions and the world's largest sea cave (with more sea lions...fat, happy, and sleeping on the rocks, what a nice life!). We made several more stops at view points along the way, and each one was better than the last! We met a couple at one such stop who were tracking a whale with binoculars (at which point I got extremely excited) but unfortunately we didn't catch a glimpse. Darn! Would've made my entire lifetime :)
By the time we got to Coos Bay, we were starved so we stopped at El Sombrero for some Mexican fare
As we got closer to Brookings, it started to mist (terrible for taking pictures through a car windshield lol) and daylight was running out on us fast. By the time we rolled into Brookings (another quaintly cute coastal town) it was pitch black out...not the greatest for the huge floor-to-ceiling oceanview windows in our room, but I can just imagine what we'll see when we wake up and throw those blinds open tomorrow morning :)
P.S. We discovered FredMeyer today, what a treasure! Similar to Wal-Mart, but way bigger and the selection was amazing! I scored a pair of Steve Madden heels for $25 and we bought a magnum of Barefoot Pinot Grigio Champagne for a whole $8.00! Dear Fred, you may just be our new best friend...
Off to bed - soooooo very tired! Up tomorrow, bright and early....the Red Woods await!!!
