Ugandan people are very friendly and always say hi how are you (and mean it), they love football (and the 4 top English teams), and their national language is English (which makes it very easy for rubbish foreign language speakers like me! - and perhaps is why there are sooooooooooo many volunteers over here).

Apart from the hundreds of volunteers there are few people who seem to just come here on holiday, which is a shame since Uganda has gorilla trekking, beautiful lakes, waterfalls, white water rafting, bungee jumping, quad biking, trekking and horse riding to offer... and I am sure much much more. The other positives are that it is a very safe country and you can walk around without being starred at or intimidated.

Bus journeys really give you time to think and look at the countryside.... we saw many half built brick buildings with grass growing inside, churches, beautiful lush vegetation, roads being constantly upgraded , fruit being stacked in large pyramids at the sides of the road, live chickens being transported under your feet on the bus, many brightly shirted school children walking down the roads and shops that are brightly painted to advertise mobile phones.

Random comments:
Karl is missing his car. Thankfully the tour company in Kenya have found Karl's fleece and we can pick it up from them when we return!
Horrible to hear about droughts in Ethiopia, especially when we were only there 4 months ago and the war is starting up again/getting worse in Eritrea.... I hope that both improve imminently.

I can't help comparing Uganda with India, perhaps it is all the curries we are eating or the women wearing sawar kameez's or more likely that we have just come from India and that since many Indians migrated here there are many indian shop and hotel owners.

India - everything is very cheap, girls have long plaits , are modestly dressed and wear lots of gold jewelry and jems and there are water pipes on most street corners. The children are never seen without thier families around. white people get starred at in whatever they wear but more women if they wear vest tops/shorts or bikinis on beaches.

Uganda - is relatively expensive, girls spend much money on braiding their hair with extensions, some wear vest tops and breast feed on the street and wear little to no jewelry, you constantly see people with yellow container going to collect water from the streams and the kids are often on the streets away from the family. White people can wear vest tops and shorts and they are not starred at.
