Rain.... did it ever.....

So after 8 or so days of relaxing by the sea and a few cloudy days it absolutely poured it down just after we had got into the boat taxi (50ksh) to go to the bus (500ksh). We got completely drenched, but at least we had 6 hours to dry off in the bus before Gede, where we changed to a Matatu (minibus) to the centre of Watamu ( 50 ksh) for another couple of days by the beach! Ok we will get back to travelling at some point... when I have improved my tan... priorites people!

Watamu is a really relaxing beach resort with many Italians. There are 3 coves, unfortunately sea weed as this time of year but lovely large sandy beaches at low tide. You just have to be careful when the tide comes in as it happens really really quickly and the 1km of ankle deep water is suddenly waist high and this means a climbing through seaweed and rocks by the  shore ruins - gede

.

Unfortunately there is a lot of hassle here for snorkling and buying souveniers especially since there has been very little tourism people are very poor around here at the moment: so we feel really bad.

We hired some bikes to go and see Gede ruins. This was a 30 minute ride, which was completely flat so that was nice. The problem was after that time our backsides really hurt as we were not used to it and knew we then had to ride back! The ruins (now 500ksh!!!) were nice and peaceful . Not very exciting but was something different. The funny things about the place is there is no historical record of it. There was a great treehouse in a baobab tree there.

We stayed at a lovely place which had cooking facilities and the wonderous fridge to allow us to have ice cold drinks was an absolutely luxury. So I ended up cooking vegetables and rice most nights and fresh fruit and jam sandwiches for breakfast... and sometimes cheese toasties...It was like home from home. Unfortunatley the toilet came off the wall and caused a bit of a commotion apart from that we had a great time. We only decided to leave as once again the clouds made sunbathing non productive.
