Today we went on a half day our of the Langa Township one of the oldest townships created in 1927 before the apartheid.  Its estimated that around 70,000 people live there now in an area just over 1 square mile.

So our guide gives us an overview of the history of South Africa before and after the apartheid. Here the townships are separate either for black people or coloured people the never live together, here in SA people are described as white, black and coloured.....self explanatory!

Today we would be walking around Langa the black people township and driving through the coloured one.  The tour we go on funds the money back into the people we visit and into the projects in the townships and they have crafts and education in order to help people.

Its very much a community within itself having shops and businesses and transport links into Cape Town.  The people we meet are very welcoming and we are shown into seriously small houses and poor conditions but also some houses that are bit better and bigger.

We came across some ladies, fire and sheep heads!!! They file off the wool using heated sticks and the sheep is then sold on to be eaten.  Thankfully we didn't taste this the smell of it all was overwhelming.

The tour was great and really good to see into the lives of the people who are now getting the chance of education and a brighter future.  The sense of community is amazing and people all work alongside each other - its understandable why people living here choose never to move out even though they have good jobs in the city centre.

After the tour we headed down to the Victoria and Albert waterfront area, although as I said to Marc its more like the Victor and Albert waterfront - very gay friendly down here.

We had a super steak dinner, Marc had a HUGE T-bone steak haha just ridiculous and the wine was plentiful - another great day :-))

Township tour - 25 each
2 steak dinners and bottle of wine & 2 beers - 82
