Rongai Route
Start Point - Mawenzi 4303m
Ascending to 4614m then heading back down to 3936m at Third Caves Camp in order to climb high sleep low, this helps with acclimatisation.

Distance covered 7.2 miles

We woke up this morning to frozen frosty tents, the rain the night before had leaked through our tent and some of our stuff was wet and the waterproofs we had been provided for the previous nights climb were er ...not so waterproof.  This was so annoying and the frustration by not just myself of the state of our kit was taking its toll on others too - rubbish sleep cause by our shitty tents is really frustrating and causing much grumpiness on my part.  I forgot to mention the dust.... from day one the amount of super fine dust all the way has been incredible you cant put nothing down for a second without it being covered in it.  Its now ingrained into our skin and nails no amount of wipes will get rid of it all so we have now just come to live with it but this mornings frost on the ground means we can escape till the sun comes up at least.

A long day of walking today but its more of a flat as we work our way around the mountain, slight down hills too make it a good walk.  For a bit this morning i started to feel really sick but I took a half Diamox and eventually it passed thankfully - no headaches and more importantly no blisters on our feet our boots have been amazing. My legs are a bit tired today at the end of it but better than I expected, Marc has been doing great I am sure he has legs of steel he is doing amazingly well.

Usual dinner of soup and a main course and we are out like lights tonight.  Tomorrow is summit day and there is a mix of nerves and also the sense of just wanting to get it done.  We have a few more people feeling really sick today but also the others who were ill earlier starting to feel better - fingers crossed we can all do this as a group.
