Rongai Route
Start Point Simba Camp at 2626m
Ascent to Kikelewa Camp at 3679m
Distance trekked 7.4 miles

We are woken in the morning at 0630 by the porters with tea and coffee at our tents and a bowl of hot water to wash with.  We had a fairly good sleep that night and a breakfast of porridge, omelette and toast has us filled up ready for the day ahead.

We set off from camp around 0745 the sun was shining and it was warm and it was a steep climb, a few hours in and I was struggling felt dizzy and weak, Marc carried my bag for a bit, it has 3 litres of water in it so its not light, then the porter took it – I was so mortified it was only day 2 surely I couldn't be this unfit.  I fell to the back of the group and had to sit, I scoffed in an energy gel, chocolate, nuts and haribos in a bid to get some energy. Thankfully it worked and I got my bag back and we were on our way – clearly I wasn't eating enough in the morning! Phew

Lunch was at 1230 and I was starving, Marc was doing amazingly well.  We had a great lunch of soup, cheese toasties, chicken and salad super tasty and just what I was needing.

We reached camp around 5.30 it was nice to arrive when it was daylight, another hearty dinner tonight of soup followed by beef strew and rice, its amazing what these guys can cook up a mountain.

A few of the team were suffering tonight from altitude sickness pretty bad, our steep ascent today of 1000m was taking its toll.

Bedding down tonight involved getting on the thermals it was pretty cold, praying that we don't need the toilet in the night brrrrrrrrrrr
