Rongai Route Start Point at 1996m high
Climb height today 610m up along 4.2 miles

Today is day one and the anticipation to get started is the feeling of pretty much everyone in the group. Breakfast at 7am and we waiting on Team Kilimanjaro coming to collect us and to sort out our kit. Eventually they arrived and it was commotion sorting out stuff there was not enough kit and limited sizes, apparently we would be stopping somewhere to get stuff!! Not exactly the kind of drama you want before setting off, we were hiring day packs off them too which they forgot to bring so we were left with a bin bag carrying all the day pack stuff as there wasn't time to pack we had to jump in the van and go ! Its now around 0945am what a load of faffing already.

It was to be a long drive to the gate in order to get started, on the way we stopped at the "kit hire" shop - a hut with mix match of stuff to be exact, after an hour of more faffing and realising the kit hire wasn't going to be as promised its just a mix match of stuff we hope will work, we eventually hit the road again.

We eventually got to our start point at 3.30pm where we sat and had lunch before finally we started our trekking for the day. We walked to camp that night in the dark and arrived at 2030, after getting our stuff into our tents dinner was served at 2200, a fine feast of soup, pasta and mince. Everyone was in good spirits and finally glad to be on the mountain after such a long day.

For those that done know there are 26 of us climbing as part of we are raising money for cancer research.
