So after a night flight with little sleep we arrive very tired in Nairobi at 0630 after getting our bags, clearing customs and finding our driver in rapid time we thought plenty of time for a sleep first !!  We had booked a room for the day to shower and get some sleep but traffic in Nairobi decided otherwise.  The short drive from the airport took well over an hour in traffic moving sooo slow that people walking were moving faster then us !! We managed an hour or so sleep before it was time to head out.

Being a huge fan of elephants we deliberately took a longer layover in order to go visit our foster elephant at the famous David Sheldrick elephant Orphanage, we go in the morning to watch them feed then in the afternoon as a foster parent in a much smaller group you get to meet you foster baby.

We set off there and once again met by traffic and lots of it - this is seems is the norm !

So we spent the day with elephants then off to the Giraffe centre where you get to feed them, followed by an amazing lunch at Tamambo restaurant set in beautiful gardens part of the Karen Bixen museum (the lady from the Out of Africa movie)

Then it was back to the hotel for our things and off to the airport for our flight to Kilimanjaro.

Costs
Driver for the day  - 70
Hotel for day - 20
Giraffe Centre - 8 per person
David Sheldrick Elephants - 5
3 course lunch and beers for 2 of us at Tamambo - 45
