The first day we arrived we went to see the monkeys – it was so cool people take bananas and they are so tame the just climb on you if you still have the bananas haha.
The next day was to be a lazy one we had a late checkout so would catch up on stuff and sleep. We got up about 1030 and we had a nice wee table and chairs outside the room so we were just having a wee cuppa tea when it happened.
I was on the laptop and we heard this loud noise like a lorry going past or an low flying plane or something – they we looked at the table and by this point our tea was jumping out the cup – I cant explain the feeling of realising your actually in an earthquake and the panic that comes over you is unreal. I said to Marc "earthquake???? “ we jumped up and stood in the garden area hanging onto each other and a young local girl was with us who was almost in tears – the noise was so loud and the feeling of the whole world under your feet shaking was just horrifying. It lasted for about a minute and when it stopped I was still shaking haha. Then all I thought was fook ….Tsunami – that is truly my worst nightmare of a way to go. We ran out the front street which was full of people they said it was the biggest earthquake they had ever felt but no one seems to have TV’s so lucky the internet was still working and we checked for news – somewhere in it all I was packing our small bags incase we had to run haha – eventually we found news that there was no Tsunami warnings, I think it was only then that I stopped shaking !!
So we headed out for some food and I decided to treat myself to a pedicure as its cheap here and certainly won’t be having any in Aus. Almost finished the lady, who was at least 7 months pregnant is down on the floor painting my nails (she said it was comfortable for her??) anyway I felt another tremor and I said to her she said no all confused next minute she let out an almighty shriek and she was on her feet out the door, me close behind her as it was yet another tremor, not as strong as early that morning but scary enough – didn’t help that I still had the toe separator things in my feet still as I hobbled out into the street haha.
The rest of the day past with no more shaking, it turns out around 50 people had been injured in other areas with building damage too but we had been fine. We got some food then in the bus to the airport, definitely won’t forget Bali in a hurry.
