The surrounding courtyards and intact instrument rooms and other palace-type rooms were interesting, our bedroom was quite basic and we had a shared (western) toilet and mandi (Indonesian shower - tub of water and hand help scoop-bucket!) There was a lovely pool infront of a covered, but open-air palace room, maybe where the royalty wouuld sit and relax?
Also enjoyed looking at many locally produced batiks and visiting the main kraton in Solo and its museum.
Let's not forget about mangoe season. Two days in a row we ate four mangoes - at bargain prices - 1,000 rupiah each (10 cents! Complete mango delight)
We also saw Casino Royale at a cineplex for 15,000 rupiah ($1.50) each on the loudest soundsystem in tour, In the first two minute I think I had already suffered permanent hearing loss, so we manually plugged our ears through the movie (hey, we paid, we weren't leaving!) - seriously, it was ridiculously loud and a bit distorted (but not to Viet Nam distortion standards).
