Twilight Zone continued
Entry 23 of 69 | show all | print this entry |
After having witnessed a Chinese Elvis in the Indian district of London I thought it couldn't get weirder, but then it happened. After dropping Jen off at the airport I took the Heathrow express into the West side of Central London. From there I leisurely walked 3 hours with my 40lb bag to the North-East side of Central London near Kings Cross station thinking I was going to stay at a particular hostel. Imagine my surprise when I found it totally booked, well with no planning what can I expect. So I figure I'll try some other hostels...booked...booked...booked...and booked. Now I'm beginning to worry, so I go on uk.hotels.com....all full all booked. Now I'm screwed, so I turn to my Marriott and Best Western points, maybe then can get me in. I may be in luck one place is not booked a Best Western all the way across town where I originally started, how ironic. So I take the subway back across town, now I'm exhausted, sweating and my back is killing me. Not wanting to get lost I stop at an open building to ask directions, imagine my surprise when I see the Hosteling International sign, so I figure I should at least ask if they have availability. They do, so I hand over my 30 pounds.
I'm beginning to think I hit the jackpot when I notice there are a lot of boy scouts around. In fact it seems like there are dozens of them, all in there crazy little uniforms. Now I look around and see the fleur de lis everywhere, what is going on I'm thinking. Finally I see the sign 'Operated by Boys and Girl Scouts of England'. So yes I stayed at a hostel with probably 300 boys and girl scouts, now Chinese Elvis doesn't seem so weird.
